Our fridge water line started leaking and we didn’t know it was leaking until it went through the floor and water started pouring out of the garage ceiling. We called my daughter who then called Michael. He was at our house in less than an hour and walked us through everything and different options because It damaged our floor and cabinets. If we have any more problems he is who we will call again. Thank you for your help.

This was pretty much the best experience I ever had with anything related to construction. My tenants had a small leak on one of the pipes that was between four separate rooms of the house. I had a plumber along with water mitigation specialists who came by. Not a single person was able to detect the source of the leak. Not even the insurance adjuster. Michael Phillips was able to find it. Not only that, but he told me exactly what was happening and what I needed to do. He did a thorough and fantastic job. What could have been a major issue turned out to be one that was far more easy to handle. I can't thank Mr. Phillips enough for his help. If I could offer 6 stars for the work he did, I would.

What Needs Attention After Water Gets Inside

Water restoration involves more than removing what is visible. The important question is what became wet and whether moisture has reached materials that cannot be seen from the surface. During a water loss, areas that may need attention include:

  • Standing Water – Water sitting on flooring or in lower areas should be extracted before it continues soaking into surrounding materials.
  • Drywall & Insulation – Moisture can move upward through drywall or become trapped inside insulated wall and ceiling cavities.
  • Finished Flooring – Carpet, hardwood, laminate, tile assemblies, and the subfloor below can each respond differently to water.
  • Cabinets & Built-In Materials – Water from kitchens, bathrooms, and appliance leaks can spread beneath cabinets and into concealed areas.
  • Ceilings & Upper Floors – Upstairs plumbing losses can affect both the room where the leak began and finished materials below.
  • Crawlspaces & Lower Areas – Water beneath the main living space may require extraction, moisture mapping, and targeted structural drying.
  • Wall Cavities – Plumbing leaks can leave moisture behind finished walls even after surface water has been removed.
  • Indoor Humidity – Evaporation from wet materials can raise humidity and slow the drying process if it is not controlled.
  • Contaminated Materials – Sewage and other unsanitary water losses require additional precautions and cleaning procedures.
  • Materials That Cannot Be Restored – Some damaged materials may need to be removed before drying and repairs can be completed.

If the water came from a failed plumbing line, visit our broken and burst pipe water damage page. For an active loss with standing water, Phillips Restoration Services also provides 24/7 emergency water removal.

How We Determine What Can Be Dried or Repaired

1. Trace the Source

We determine where the water originated and whether the source has been stopped before beginning the restoration work.

2. Map the Moisture

Affected rooms and materials are checked with moisture-detection equipment to determine where water has traveled beyond the obvious damage.

3. Extract What Can Be Removed

Standing and recoverable water is removed with professional extraction equipment before structural drying begins.

4. Dry Salvageable Materials

Air movers, dehumidifiers, and specialty drying methods are used when appropriate to reduce moisture in materials that can remain in place.

5. Recheck the Structure

Moisture readings are taken during drying to determine whether affected materials are improving and where additional attention may be needed.

6. Repair What Could Not Be Saved

Damaged materials that cannot be restored can be replaced once the affected areas are dry and ready for repairs.

Why the Materials Matter During Water Restoration

Two properties with similar amounts of water can require different restoration plans. Water beneath hardwood flooring behaves differently than moisture in carpet and padding, drywall, insulation, cabinets, or unfinished framing. How long the materials were wet and whether the water was contaminated also affect what can reasonably be dried and restored.

Phillips Restoration Services uses moisture readings and the conditions at the property to determine where extraction, dehumidification, air movement, specialty drying, cleaning, or material removal may be needed. This approach helps focus the work on the areas actually affected rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all setup.

For commercial properties where water damage may also affect operations, tenants, inventory, or occupied areas, see our commercial water damage restoration services.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Whether flooring can remain depends on the flooring material, how much water reached it, the condition of the subfloor, how long it remained wet, and whether the water was contaminated. The area should be evaluated before deciding whether drying or removal is appropriate.

Sometimes. The answer depends on how the cabinets are constructed, where the water traveled, and whether the cabinet boxes, toe kicks, walls, or flooring underneath remain wet. Moisture readings can help determine which areas need additional drying or removal.

Surface water can be removed while moisture remains inside porous building materials. Continued readings help determine whether drywall, framing, flooring, or other materials are actually drying rather than simply looking dry on the surface.

If an active plumbing failure needs to be stopped or repaired, a plumber may be needed to correct the source. A restoration company addresses the water that escaped, the wet building materials, structural drying, cleanup, and resulting damage. In many losses, both services are needed.

Sewage water requires additional contamination controls and cleaning procedures. Phillips Restoration Services provides sewage damage cleanup, which may include extraction, removal of affected porous materials, cleaning, disinfection, drying, filtration, and odor treatment.

Yes. Commercial water damage may involve occupied areas, tenants, equipment, inventory, customer spaces, and business operations that need to be considered during the restoration plan. Our commercial water damage restoration service is designed for those more complex losses.

Not Sure How Far the Water Has Spread?
