Our fridge water line started leaking and we didn’t know it was leaking until it went through the floor and water started pouring out of the garage ceiling. We called my daughter who then called Michael. He was at our house in less than an hour and walked us through everything and different options because It damaged our floor and cabinets. If we have any more problems he is who we will call again. Thank you for your help.

This was pretty much the best experience I ever had with anything related to construction. My tenants had a small leak on one of the pipes that was between four separate rooms of the house. I had a plumber along with water mitigation specialists who came by. Not a single person was able to detect the source of the leak. Not even the insurance adjuster. Michael Phillips was able to find it. Not only that, but he told me exactly what was happening and what I needed to do. He did a thorough and fantastic job. What could have been a major issue turned out to be one that was far more easy to handle. I can't thank Mr. Phillips enough for his help. If I could offer 6 stars for the work he did, I would.

What to Do When You Discover Water Damage

The first few decisions after a water loss should focus on stopping additional water when possible and avoiding unnecessary exposure to damaged or contaminated areas. If you discover water inside your property:

  • Stop the Water if It Is Safe – Shut off the appropriate supply valve or main water supply when an active plumbing leak can be safely controlled.
  • Watch for Electrical Hazards – Avoid standing water around outlets, appliances, electrical panels, wiring, or other electrical equipment.
  • Protect Accessible Belongings – Move small items and valuables away from the wet area when they can be reached safely.
  • Document What You See – Photos of the affected areas can help create a record of the condition when the loss was discovered.
  • Do Not Assume the Surface Is the Only Wet Area – Water may have traveled underneath flooring, cabinets, walls, or into rooms below.
  • Be Careful With Contaminated Water – Sewage and drain backups should not be treated like an ordinary clean-water spill.
  • Call the Appropriate Repair Professional – An active plumbing failure may need a plumber while the resulting property damage requires restoration and drying.
  • Start Water Removal Promptly – Standing water can continue being absorbed into flooring, drywall, cabinets, and structural materials.
  • Have Moisture Checked – Professional moisture detection can help determine whether areas outside the visible loss were affected.
  • Contact Your Insurance Carrier – If you plan to file a claim, notify your carrier and keep records related to the loss and restoration work.

If a broken plumbing line caused the damage, learn more about our broken and burst pipe water damage service. If standing water needs immediate extraction, Phillips Restoration Services provides 24/7 emergency water removal.

Water Damage & Restoration Services

Some water losses require extraction and drying while others also involve contaminated water, crawlspaces, mold, commercial property damage, or repairs. Phillips Restoration Services provides restoration services for the different problems that can follow a water loss.

Emergency Water Removal

Rapid extraction of standing water from affected rooms and materials.

Sewage Damage Cleanup

Extraction, removal of affected materials, cleaning, sanitizing, drying, and odor control.

Basements & Crawlspaces

Moisture removal and targeted drying for below-ground and confined areas.

Broken & Burst Pipes

Cleanup after plumbing leaks, appliance failures, overflows, and other pipe-related water issues

Mold Inspection & Removal

Professional remediation when mold develops after leaks, flooding, or hidden moisture problems.

Commercial Water Damage

Water mitigation and restoration for offices, retail spaces, and other commercial properties.

What Happens When Our Restoration Team Arrives?

1. Inspect the Loss

We look at where the water originated, which areas were affected, and whether the source has been stopped before moving forward.

2. Document the Affected Areas

Visible damage and moisture conditions are evaluated so the restoration work is based on the actual scope of the loss.

3. Extract Standing Water

Professional pumps and extraction equipment are used as appropriate to remove water before it continues soaking into surrounding materials.

4. Establish Drying Conditions

Air movers and dehumidifiers are positioned to control humidity and remove moisture from affected flooring, drywall, framing, and other materials.

5. Monitor the Results

Moisture readings help show whether the affected materials are drying and whether additional attention is needed in concealed areas.

6. Move Into Repairs

Once the affected areas are dry, damaged materials that could not be restored can be repaired or replaced to complete the project.

Emergency Mitigation Is Only Part of the Restoration

The first priority after a water loss is usually mitigation: stopping additional damage, removing standing water, identifying affected areas, and beginning structural drying. That does not always mean the property is fully restored. Drywall, insulation, flooring, trim, and other materials may still need repair or replacement after the moisture problem has been addressed.

Phillips Restoration Services can handle both phases of the project. Instead of completing the drying and leaving the property owner to find another contractor, our team can continue into the necessary water damage repairs once conditions are ready.

For offices, retail spaces, rental properties, and other business facilities, our commercial water damage restoration services address extraction, drying, cleanup, documentation, repairs, and the additional considerations that come with an active business property.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mitigation focuses on limiting additional damage by removing water, identifying wet materials, and beginning structural drying. Restoration includes the work needed afterward to clean, repair, or replace damaged materials and return the affected area to usable condition.

A plumber can repair the plumbing problem, but water that escaped before the repair may remain inside flooring, drywall, cabinets, insulation, or other building materials. A restoration company addresses the resulting water damage, moisture detection, extraction, and drying.

It depends on the source of the water, amount of moisture, length of exposure, condition of the materials, and whether contamination is present. The flooring and materials beneath it should be evaluated before deciding what can be dried and what should be removed.

Not in every situation. Whether the property can remain occupied depends on the size and location of the loss, contamination, electrical concerns, affected living areas, and the amount of restoration work required. The conditions at the property should be evaluated before making that decision.

It can. Water entering through roofing, windows, doors, or other exterior openings may reach insulation, drywall, flooring, ceilings, and concealed spaces. The affected areas should be evaluated and dried even after the exterior source has been corrected.

If you plan to file a claim, contact your carrier as soon as practical and follow the requirements of your policy. Phillips Restoration Services can provide photos, moisture readings, estimates, and documentation of restoration work, while the insurance carrier determines coverage.
